In the most recent instance of the GTAC securing a significant purchase deal, an importer from the Middle East purchased approximately 12.5 lakh kgs of CTC tea from the GTAC between April and October of this year at an average price of Rs 238.57. The average price of CTC tea per kg is Rs 31.61 higher than the GTAC average. According to Dinesh Bihani, secretary of the Guwahati Tea Auction Buyers Association, premium CTC tea is exported to Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries.
"We also have a regular importer from Kazakhstan purchasing CTC tea in bulk through the GTAC." This year, the GTAC sold 81.65 million kg of tea at an average price of Rs 206.96 between April and October, which is approximately 20 million kgs less than the same period last year.
