Time Named Atomo Coffee One Of The Best Inventions Of 2022

TIME named Atomo Coffee's Molecular Cold Brew the Best Invention in the Food and Drink category.

Atomo announced today that it has been chosen as one of the most inventive beverages in TIME's Best Inventions of 2022. TIME described Atomo's beanless cold brew as "a remarkably close coffee dupe at a tenth of the environmental cost." Atomo's cold brew generates 93% fewer carbon emissions and 94% less water consumption than normal coffee, with the goal of making a wonderful tasting coffee that is healthier for the earth. "The Atomo team has spent the last four years making the greatest coffee for the world," says CEO Andy Kleitsch.

Atomo Coffee has produced three cold brew SKUs this year and has consistently outperformed consumers' expectations in blind taste testing vs typical cold brew choices. "We appreciate TIME's award and are thrilled to have been chosen," COO Ed Hoehn adds. "As more people become aware of and experience our cold brew, they realise we have created something unique." TIME magazine has released its annual list of the Best Inventions, which includes 200 astonishing ideas that are altering our lives. "The result is a list of 200 groundbreaking inventions (and 50 special mention inventions)—including life-mapping artificial intelligence, diamonds made from excess carbon in the air, and the most powerful telescope ever—that are changing how we live, work, play, and think about what's possible," write TIME's editors of the new list.

Atomo, a Seattle-based food-tech firm founded in 2019, has reverse-engineered the coffee bean, generating an amazing beanless cold brew coffee that tastes great and does good. Atomo envisions a world in which consumers never have to sacrifice their beliefs, taste, or the environment in order to enjoy a fantastic cup of coffee.

TIME invited nominations from TIME's editors and reporters throughout the world, as well as through an online application process, with a focus on emerging industries such as the electric car industry, renewable energy, and the metaverse. TIME then assessed each candidate on a variety of criteria, including creativity, efficacy, ambition, and impact.
